Recently, I have heard many comments about the cost of gasoline or vegetables or other things in Japan. The perception is that we are paying more for things these days. I saw this chart in the New York Times a day or two ago.
I know petrol was cheapest here during the early lockdowns, when no-one was allowed to travel much anyway. Now it costs more than it did before the pandemic. Supply and demand in action maybe.
Food prices don't seem to have changed much, and I haven't bought anything other than food and petrol for the last 2 years!
I agree that compared with other countries we don't have anything to complain about. Having said that, if you compare the prices of many daily items today with those before the pandemic, we do have the right to grumble.
Compared to other coutries,the rate of price increase in Japan is low. But I certainly feal the price increase in my daily life. I imagine that people who are producing things can confirm the price increase are in a very difficult situation. So I have no complaints. But I have to think carefully and shop. I want to buy want I need with the feeling of cheering even if the price has risen.
I found that things in Japan were more expensive than here comparatively when we visited in 1998 (I know -- too long to be accurate). Now, I'd have no idea but I do know our prices are going up, up, up.

Prices are going up here too. Many reasons are give, the virus, the weather, lack of people to pick fruit, lack of transport!

Maybe some things got more expensive and others cheaper so it canceled each other out? But you don't seem to bee that bad off overall!
