Tottori Castle Ruins

After visiting Tottori Sand Dunes, next was a trip to Tottori Castle Ruins.

Here are some notes from J-Castle - - -

Yamana Nobumichi built Tottori Castle in 1545. The castle is well known for a famous attack that took place in 1581 when Hideyoshi laid siege to the castle for 200 days. After exhausting their supplies, Kikkawa Tsuneie, lord of the castle, gave up on the condition that his soldier's lives be spared. Miyabe Keijun took over the castle at this point, but was replaced by Ikeda Nagayoshi after the Battle of Sekigahara. Ikeda expanded or rebuilt much of the castle.

The weather wasn't great that day, but walking uphill keeps a person warm. There was a lot of uphill and the stone walls were great.

The shrine was a little worn, but still interesting.

Going out this gate leads to the next interesting place.  I'll be posting about it very soon.

I like those tree roots holding the rocks in place. It must have taken a lot of work to collect all those big rocks to build such high walls.

It does look cold!

Looking forward to finding out what is through the mystery gate.

The stone walls of Japanese castles are truly impressive, as well as beautiful when moss and plants start growing. I am still surprised you had so little snow in Tottori.
