Japan Cleans Up

On Wednesday, after Japan unexpectedly defeated Germany in the World Cup soccer match in Qatar, Japanese supporters cleaned up litter in the stadium.

This may sound strange but it is a common thing for Japanese people to do. I've seen reports from other events with Japanese spectators doing the same thing. In Japan it is uncommon to see trash cans on the street or other places because people just expect to take their trash home. Public areas are neat and clean. This is one of the many things I love about Japan and Japanese culture.

when i was a kid.
The teacher always said that we would go an excursion.
「Let's go home cleaner than when we came here」.
That's why I picked up trash before I got on the bus on the way home.

If there was a trash can,
otherwise I look it home.
The teacher said it was for nature and for the next person.

Japanese supporters in Qatar are cleaning for themselves,
the players,and staff,
and for Qatar and next person to use it.
I think Japanese supporters are probably cleaning comfortably.⚽

That is a very civilised tradition!

This is a 'Made in Japan' tradition I hope will be exported to all countries around the world!

I was deeply impressed that young supporters cleaned up voluntarily.

I do wish English teachers would adopt this attitude.
The littering is such a problem here in the UK!
We walk on a local Common and are always picking up other people’s rubbish.
Good on the Japanese! 👏👏👏

That's one of the things I love about Japan! Although as a tourist, I would have wished for some more trash cans as to not lug my rubbish around all day.

Hi Pamela: Michael said that Japan is a very respectable country, they know how to raise amazing families.
If only we could get all the world to be this considerate.
