Friday Finish - Little Blue Scissors Pocket

I recently stitched this square with DMC 794 and 798.

I have now finished it into a small pocket for some small scissors.

Japanese Pattern 12

New Start - scissors pocket.  Stitching finished and I plan to use the fabric on the right for the lining.

New Start - Christmas ornament. Stitching done, needs to be finished into ornament.

Friday Finish - Little Toolie Basket

Finally!  The stitching was finished long ago, but the construction was stopping me from finishing this. It was a little finicky, but I'm happy with it.

The stitching and the cording were done with Waterlilies #177 thread. The designer is Simona Bussiglieri.

Stitch Group Sunday

Show and Tell - one stitcher completely finished her candlewicking piece into a little zipper pouch, and everyone had the stitching finished on the candlewicking piece.

One person had to leave early before I took any pictures of her, but she was almost finished with the day's project - one day project: strawberry pin cushion.

Flea Market Find

 A few days ago, I went to the grocery store early and there was a little flea market in the parking lot.  I walked around and looked.  Most of the offerings were clothes and children's items. 

One woman's blue tarp was full of sewing items. It looked like she was clearing out her mother or grandmother's house. It was obvious that she had no idea what the items were worth or even what they would cost new. Nothing was prepriced, so I had to ask about each item, pointing and saying ikura desu ka? She would look at whatever it was, sometimes picking it up and giving me a price, that I considered too high. There were hundreds of packages of needles, buttons, embroidery floss, etc. I invited her to give me a deal for zenbu, all of a set of things, like the embroidery thread. She counted them and told me the price, with no discount. I did find and buy one little wooden cabinet thing with some stuff inside and it was 500 yen, which I considered a good deal. I can clean it up a bit.

I'm curious about how much of her stuff she sold.

Friday Finish - Mini Hussif

According to Sharon B (Pintangle blog): "A hussif or huswif is an 18th-century term for a basic sewing kit.  If you look up the word Hussif, you will see it described as an alternative form of ‘housewife’ which originally meant a sewing-case. "

I have my regular crazy quilt hussif, but decided I needed a smaller version for whatever little carry along project I have in my bag.  I bought a plain white potholder at Daiso (100 yen).

The opened up backside.

This is the opened up inside. The two triangle areas are for putting your fingers and thumb in to use it as a potholder.  I divided one side to make two smaller pockets and added a piece of felt to hold pins and needles.  One snap will hold it closed.

One part of the divided side is for scissors and I stitched a little ribbon to hold them in place. The other part could hold thread or other things I need.

The half behind the felt could hold a small project or other things I need when I am stitching on the go.

I'm pleased with how it turned out.  What do you think?

Friday Finish - Bee Toolie Bag

I recently finished stitching the small "Bee Well" piece, with the idea to make it into a small bag for my bee toolie things. The cross stitch pattern is a freebie from Blackberry Rabbit. This is how it turned out.

I squared the bottom of the bag and made the drawstring with ribbon.

Here are the toolies that will be kept inside: beehive pin keep, beehive scissor fob (pattern from Sheepish Designs in Huntersville, NC.), bee's wax in a bee tin, and a beehive needle book.

I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Monday Morning Star Count

This week, I made a combination pin cushion/needle book from some  Japanese fabric hexagons. A little button holds the tiny needle book closed.

I like it but I might make a second one with cotton fabric. The Japanese fabric is pretty but doesn't have enough body.
