The People's Choice - Birds

 

Jo at Serendipidous Stitching is hosting a Stitch A Long the first Saturday of the month, with the topics chosen by her readers.  This month's topic is Birds. 

This little applique bird was my NHK block in 2014 or 2015.

This biscornu was a gift for someone else.  Seeing the photo, I want to make another for myself.

This is a beaded crane I made, that is a little purse.

I've made a few ornaments with birds.

This is my Thanksgiving Day bird.

This was a bookmark kit that I made into a little bag.

I've stitched three of Tanja Berlin's blackwork birds.

Birds need a place to live.  Here are three birdhouses I stitched.

Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival 2021 Partnership Quilt Announcement

Thank you Queenie (Queenie's Needlework) for keeping us informed about next year's theme! Let's keep our fingers crossed that we will be able to attend in person next January. 

The theme for the 2021 project is Love the Earth. Kathy Nakajima and her son Yosuke Katsuno are in charge of the project this year. I am already thinking about what I can make. The deadline is only two months away.

• size 15x15 cm + seam allowance of 1-2 cm

• no quilting,

• name written in lower right seam allowance,

• enclose a self addressed 63yen postcard, if you live in Japan and want to know in which quilt your block has been added

Tokyo International Quilt Festival 2020 - NHK Partnership Quilts

Each Spring the theme for the next year's partnership quilts is announced. Individual blocks are sent by July 31st and many volunteers sort them into quilts of 154 blocks each.  Then they are sewn together and quilted.  At the Quilt Festival, you can buy chances to win the quilt, with the money raised going to charity. This year 8,721 blocks were received. The theme was my favorite animal.

Brazilian Stitch Group

The stitch group met on Sunday to begin a Brazilian Embroidery project.  Before stitching, we had a bit of show and tell of recent projects. All of the NHK Partnership blocks are finish (mine has already been mailed).

First thing for our new project is renshu (practice). I think the most difficult part of Brazilian Embroidery is the slick z-twist rayon thread. We practiced a number of different stitches and decided we need some additional practice before we can begin our project, which is a small pin.

For tea time, we were like the polar bear block and went for kakigori.  Here is a post about the last time we went to this shop together.  The menu looks the same.
