For my perforated paper ornaments, I usually put them on the felt before cutting them out, so I cut paper and felt together and the fit is exact. (I also try to make those harsh corners a little rounder/softer, but that's not always possible without endangering the threads on the back...)
Your little flapper cat looks fine, and the back won´t be seen.
