My Students Want to Know ...

Why so many old people want to be president of the United States. I don't know the answer for that.  What do you think?

(Yes, young people want to be president too, but why do people who are 70+ want to be president?)

That's a very strange way to frame the question. It sounds as if you don't think young people want to be president.

well, there are actually a lot more of us old people that DON'T want to be president! (big grin!)

that said, there were quite a few younger people that were running for the job until very recently when the voters in the primaries already held indicated that the older ones in the race were the preferred candidates. Maturity? Experience? I personally think a number of the younger ones hold a lot of promise but it seems that their time has not come yet.

There were a lot of younger people in the competition, but the American people seem to have found the old white guys the most attractive of the options.

This is the most wondered about question. The battle of the oldest has just ended. Loose ends waiting to be tied up. Progressive vs Middle of the Road Liberal. "They" say the country needs calm and level headed leadership now. I wanted a younger guy too. One woman appealed to me and I'd bet she'll be on the ticket too.

So the question remains unanswered. I'm betting that neither remaining candidate would not divulge their own inner most thoughts.

Good question.

Got me. The last thing I'd want in the world is that much responsibility.

I don't get it either. I think if I was 70+, I'd want to enjoy me retirement, not take on a new job of that dimension!
