Fukiage
onsen is a free open air coed onsen. We had to walk down a snowy trail in the woods
to get to it and there was no building or changing room. You’ll understand why
I don’t have photos of the hot spring area. (Note, there is another inside resort type onsen with the same name. I don't want you to be confused.)

Fukiage Onsen, Hokkaido
Ted and
I are usually up for any adventure that comes along. We were planning to go to an onsen on this
trip, probably one we had been to before, when someone told us about one we
didn’t know about. The person who told us about it said we would be “surprised”. Actually, I think the bathers who were
already there when we arrived were the ones who were surprised.

Snow still on the ground, you are brave!
You are brave to undress where there is no changing room and to slip into the coed bath with strangers. The snow must have had a cooling effect.
I think Queenie took the words right out of my mouth. Sounds like a memorable adventure!
