Carrot Cake is Not in Japan

Do you have a favorite cake? There are several kinds of cakes that I like, but my absolute favorite is carrot cake with cream cheese icing. Carrot cake is a dense cake with carrots, raisins, nuts, pineapple, plus all the regular cake stuff, like sugar, flour, eggs. Growing up, my mom made it for my birthday every year and my first year in college my parents had a carrot cake delivered to me in my dorm from a local bakery.
I've never seen carrot cake sold in Japan. No, I can't make one myself. I have no oven. When I travel outside Japan, I always look for it, and have eaten it in Spain, Italy, the UK, and Australia. Ted made one in the crock pot for me one year in Hokkaido. I think Japanese people prefer light fluffy cakes and carrot cake is heavy.
So, tell me, do you like carrot cake? What is your favorite cake?

The cake in the picture looks rich and yummy!
I don't like carrots, so a carrot cake puts me off.
Anyway, I try to to keep away from cakes of all sorts,to prevent weight gain.
Carrot cake is my fave too -- or one of them. I have a killer recipe. If you ever come back to the states let me know and I'll be sure you get it. but yes, it does require an oven!

Happy birthday month even without your favorite cake! I'd send you one but a virtual cake just doesn't taste the same does it? My favorite is white cake with chocolate icing, yum. I never did develop a taste for Japanese cake when I lived there in the 50s and 60s.
Glad to hear that Japan is weathering the pandemic fairly well. Quite a reflection of a common good minded population vs. the American strong streak of independence isn't it?

Think of is as a blessing - without an oven and the chance to make a carrot cake, there is more time for stitching!
The cake in the picture does look scrumptious, however it is not my absolute favourite, I would probably peel off the icing. Swedish cakes are hardly ever iced so I have never learned to appreciate that extra layer of sugar coating. I'd prefer something nutty, like a walnut, hazelnut or almond cake.
Most cake recipes in Japan seem to be for chiffon cakes, super light and airy. They are difficult to make and a bit too bland for me, like eating air. Better sit and stitch than bake and eat, eh!
One of my favourites also, but I am partial to a slice of chocolate mud cake.

I do like carrot cake, if I can find a gluten free version.
Carrot cake is one of my favourite cakes to bake and eat, although I always made the Swiss kind, not the American - it's a little lighter on the spices and doesn't have raisins or pineapple. I love eating both, though! But I think my favourite cake would be Blackforst Cherry Cake. I can't make that one myself!
