Daijo-ji Temple

This temple is a long walk from my apartment, but it was well worth seeing.

This is the view from the street. The first thing I noticed was the little statues, little men doing all different things.

I don't normally touch railings, but these steps were very mossy and slick.

The little men were amazing, and they were everywhere.  I'm sure I didn't see them all.

This one has some kind of lizard, maybe his pet?

Usually, these have red hats and bibs.  I don't know why the ones at this temple have white.

What an interesting place!

Another amazing temple. Were there no other visitors, or did you carefully take photos when others were out of the shot? How fantastic to be able to see something like this without crowds of people everywhere. It seems so serene and timeless.

The gardens are amazing. I've never seen anything like the cycad in your second-last picture. It looks incredibly old.

It's a very welcoming temple.
As for the question about the white bibs, I did a little research and have a reading list for you:

On this website there is a LOT to read - it's a place where you will find answers to many other questions you might have, e.g. why some Jizo are tied up in string, are pasted with paper or are rubbed with oil, why there are piles of stones around them...
Today, have a look at 'Why the Red Bib, Hat, Toys'. At the fourth dot there is some text abut Enmei Jizo. Could it be that the white bibs you saw at Daijo-ji were on Enmei Jizo?

The temples in Japan are very peaceful and beautiful, this temple was full of character. We’re there Azaleas in the garden?
