Hogan-ji Temple
In most of Japan, Obon is observed mid August, but in the area where I live, Obon is mid July. Obon is the annual Buddhist event to honor one's ancestors. I was the only one around when I visited this temple, but it was obvious people had been cleaning and getting the graves ready for Obon.
It's still the rainy season, but the rain held off until I was able to get home again.

Pamela: It is so beautiful that Japan has so many beautiful buildings gardens and other very historic places to visit.
Here in the USA they now want to change the name of the White House, plus taking down anything that has a history.
Thank-you for sharing this beautiful place.

Wonderful temple, the trees and plants around are amazing .
This temple is very well kept, even the stone table and seats look polished.
I am amazed there are so many palm trees in temple grounds in Shizuoka.
It all looks very neat and tidy, including the cloud-pruning of the trees.
Another beautiful temple, I was amazed at how many temples are hidden away in the streets. Pleased the rain held off for you.
When my kids were small, Obon was a fun festival with dancing and taiko drumming and even parades. We have a long street of temples near our station but even tanabata this year did not have the usual decorations and activities. I enjoyed your picture tour.
Do you know why it's being observed at a different time in your area?
Another gorgeous temple. They never cease to amaze me!
