Smalls Stitch Along and Needlequest Finish - Miniature Pillow

This month the Needlequest challenge is Miniature Work. Miniature is also small, so this is my December Smalls SAL, too.   I finished this one inch bargello pillow with twisted cord edging made from DMC floss.

There will be a 2015 Smalls Stitch A Long and it’s not too late to sign up.  In 2014 I tried to stitch different little toolie things.  The little pillow was fun, so in 2015, I want to stitch some miniature things, just in case I ever have another doll house.

2014 Smalls SAL - Crane Fob

This month I’ve made a fob, using the same pattern I used for Ted’s doorhanger.  I stitched over one with one strand of DMC floss and made the cording with two strands of perle cotton #5 (DMC #321).

2014 Smalls SAL - Victorian Needlebook

My Small this month is a Victorian Needlebook, that completes a set.  I finished the bag a couple of years ago and the scissors case last year.

2014 Smalls Stitch a Long - Crazy Quilt Pinkeep

I made this little pin keep, using tiny scraps of fabric leftover from the hexagon quilt. It worked up in only a day.

2014 Smalls SAL - Reversible Acorn Fob

My completed small this month is this reversible acorn fob, stitched on perforated paper using the Montenegrin stitch and the two sided cross stitch.

 

 

This was a guild project a long time ago.  I did the little practice stitching at the meeting, but never worked the project, until now.  I think it turned out very cute.

2014 Smalls SAL - Needlethreader Fob

This month I’ve made a fob for a needlethreader.  The designer is Denise Harrington Pratt, who was also the designer of the Jubilation Box and the Summer Sampler Box and set of little toolies that I finished in 2013.

This fob was stitched on 28 count evenweave with silk threads.  The beads are Mill Hill seed beads in #11 and #6.

 

It’s so cute, I want to make another one.  I’m linking up with Stitching Lotus, hostess of this year long stitch-a-long.

Starting a New "Small"

I’m participating in the Smalls Stitch-A-Long this year and so far have been able to complete mine in time to post about it on the last Wednesday of each month.  I want to continue to be able to post a completed small each month, so I’ve already started mine for May.

2014 Small SAL - Brazilian Fob

My completed small this month is a fob with a small Brazilian embroidery and beads.

2014 Smalls SAL - Strawberries and Rice

My completed small this month is the lid to a small box.  The box came with cookies and was a gift from my music English Students.  It is just the right size to hold spools of Accentuate.  I stitched the strawberry pattern with rice stitches and added a double row of cording I made with perle #5 and Impressions.

2014 Smalls SAL - In the Burgundy Scissors Fob

Here’s my completed small for February – a tiny biscornu fob, using the Fisherton de la Mere embroidery technique.  The pattern and the Silken Pearl thread (SP10 074: In the Burgundy by the Thread Gatherer) were a gift from Margaret.  I used the called for threads and beads, but used white 32 count linen in place of the tan called for in the pattern.  The finished size is about 2 inches by 2 inches.

 

 

The pattern is from Barbary Row by designer Sherelyn Whiteman.  From the instructions: “the style of embroidery is essentially pulled work with the addition of surface stitches.  It is named after the village of Fisherton de la Mere, where, in the late 19^th centery (1890), Fisherton House was the home of a distinguished embroideress, Mrs. Josephine Mary Newall (d. 1923).  She adapted 16^th and 17^th century embroidery techniques, and developed and taught this style of embroidery, thus establishing a cottage industry for the cripples and the less fortunate individuals in the parish.  For over 30 years she provided the linen and threads for them to work the embroidered pieces.  She would then sell the pieces for them, passing the income received on to them.”

2014 Smalls SAL - Kogin Needlebook

Here’s my completed small for January – a kogin pattern needlebook. The lining is a Japanese silk print and the needle pages are red wool.  The pattern for this needlebook is available at caro-rose creations.
