The Big Year End Clean Up - 大掃除

In the US, people sometimes use the phrase "spring cleaning", but I don't know if anyone actually does it. In Japan, there is oosouji 大掃除, big end of the year clean up, and I'm pretty sure almost everyone does it. It's a ritual and a way to start the new year with a clean slate.

This week I've been thinking about it and making my To Do list. In addition to the regular cleaning jobs, I want to declutter some of the things that I've been saving, just in case I might need them. I never need them.  I also want to get rid of negative things - old clothes I don't wear, email about things I don't care about and won't look at again, generally all things that aren't good. I want to start out 2021 better than 2020 has been. We don't know when the pandemic will end, but my space will be cleaner and more positive anyway.

I have ten days off from work for the new year holiday and since I'm not traveling this year, I hope to do a really really big clean up. Do you have any end of the year rituals?

Work In Progress Wednesday

 Here's more of the pumpkin - - -

I started a new beading project.  This will be a little fob.  I made some others like this last year and one a couple of years ago.

The little redwork piece is progressing.

And, at stitch group Sunday, I started a new band sampler project that will be a mini stocking.

Stitching Friends, My Birthday, and Christmas!

I love my stitch group!  We met on Sunday, and they are so good to me!

First we had some show and tell from the last get together.

I made the beaded ornaments as gifts and they were well received.

Our new project is band samplers.  We looked at stitches and practiced stitches and prepared the fabric. We started our stitching.

After we put away the stitching, they gave me cake and presents and sang happy birthday.  They know how old I am because last year was my kanreki.

I am so fortunate to have such a wonderful group of friends!  A big thank you to all of them!

O Christmas Tree

I like my little tree so I leave it up all year. Recently, I took all of the ornaments off and rearranged it.  I had made some additional ornaments and it was getting a little cluttered.  I had to put a few ornaments away, but I may trade them out later on.

A few close ups --

It's a simple little tree, stitched ornaments, no lights. Simple is good at this stage of my life.

Friday Finish - Six Beaded Ornaments and a Fob

I made these to give as gifts. I've made beaded ornaments in the past, using bugle beads with seed beads.  These ornaments use only seed beads.  I think they turned out well.

While I had the beads out, I finished this little beady fob, too.
