Monday Morning Star Count - My Garden Is Growing

My original plan was to make a bajillion hexagons, THEN put them together into flowers.  That idea lasted about two minutes – I couldn’t wait to make flowers.  Now I have a pile of little squares that I baste into hexagons.  Whenever I get six that match, I find a seventh and make them into a flower.  When my choices get slim, I cut more little squares.  I didn’t realize I had so many blue fabrics.  When I was in the Shawnee Quilt Guild in the US, I participated in the fat quarter exchange several years. I asked for fabrics that were blue or with cats.  I held on to many of those fat quarters for years and I am glad to be able to use them in this project.

You can join in – check it out at Jessica’s Life Under Quilts.

I have 24 flowers.  I wonder how many I need to make a quilt?

Wonderful blue hexagon flowers.

I saw a fantastic Welsh quilt today at a quilt show in Stowmarket, England. There were 17.500 hexagons in that one, so you'd better keep going!

Your blue flowers are so pretty. I too had plans to wait until I had all my hexi flowers done and then join them together so that I could ensure I had all my scrappy colors well distributed...ha...ha... I couldnt wait and decided to join them and let the scraps fall where they may. I look forward to seeing your flowers grow.

A serene blue garden, I love it. Basically, the number of hexies depends on what size you use... and what size of quilt you want to get.
I'd say, just sew on and make as many flowers as you feel like... it's the process that's the fun, isn't it?

Oh yes, I definitely understand this kind of plan. It allways happens to me exactly the same way.
I like your flowers in blue. BTW: why not make it a challenge? Like "how many flowers am I going to make in three months?"? I'm looking forward to see your lovely project grow.

I love those blue flowers. I didn't want to know how many flowers you need, because I would love to make one quilt like this for me, but so many hexies, so many flowers... Keep going

These are just beautiful...what size hexi are you using?

Simply beautiful. I love quilts with restricted palettes (is that the word I am looking for? Sounds like a nasty disease... and 'monochrome' is wrong too, well... you know what I mean). It's great! It's blue! Keep going! I want to make one like that next: the combination of randomness and pattern is just perfect. JJ

Thank you. The hexies are 26 cm.

Pretty little things... said...

Is it possible you mean 26mm? Centimeters seems pretty big... ;)

Yes! You are correct - 26 mm. As a person who understands inches and feet, the metric system is so difficult for me! Thank you for correcting me.
