Calligraphy and Lilacs

Saturday I went to Sapporo to participate in a Calligraphy workshop at Hokusei Gakuen, then go to the Lilac Festival in Odori Park.

The calligraphy workshop was a program for the high school students to practice their English with native English speakers by coming up with Kanji for the foreigners names and teaching them to write it.

The event was held in a 5th floor classroom with a view.  Not wanting to arrive late, I arrived a little early, and was the first to arrive.

There were fifteen tables with four or five students and a “guest” at each one. The students had fifteen minutes, then the groups changed.  After four fifteen minute sessions, the students won snacks for their efforts. The names the four groups I worked with came up with for me were:
Group 7 Wing Shoot Future, Love Romance
Group 8 Wave Sea Enjoy
Group 5 Wave Shoot Nice, Elegant Lotus
Group6 Leaf Bud Orchid, Love Lotus

I’ve attended three other events at this school and it's always fun.

Next I went to Odori Park, where the lilacs were in bloom and smelled wonderful.

The festival seems to be all about food booths and long lines.

Needless to say, I didn’t eat anything at the festival.  I had a nice day in the city and was home in time for dinner.
