Catching Up With Friends

Last Saturday, I was able to catch up with two friends.  We hadn't see each other in awhile, so it was an enjoyable time to meet and talk. We ate lunch together, then took a walk around in Fuji City.

First we visited the Rose Garden. There were so many varieties in one place.

We crossed the river and continued walking and talking in the park. If I lived in Fuji City, I would walk here often.

After leaving the park, we walked to Fuji City Sengen Shrine.

It was a good day and a reminder not to let so much time pass before we meet again.

So much greenery in the city. Japanese rose gardens are usually very well-kept. I think it is a matter of manpower - deadheading the roses takes a lot of work. Did you pay for entering? In Sweden rose gardens are usually free and without an income, there is very little money to spend on gardeners. The result? Untidy flowerbeds and sad-looking roses.

Those roses are just spectacular -- especially the arches. What a gorgeous place and a fun day out. I bet the fragrance was fantastic! Love those red bridges, too!

Beautiful gardens, both the rose garden and at the Shrine.

Do you think Japanese rose gardeners are mainly interested in rose fragrance or form? I think fragrance is the most important, but many of the roses that are popular here have very little perfume.
