Babies Now "Working" at Long Term Care Home in Japan
I really like this news story. A long term care home in southern Japan is "hiring" babies to keep elderly residents company. They are "paid" with diapers and baby formula. The new hires must be under the age of four and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. They are allowed to show up for work whenever they like and take breaks if they feel hungry, tired, or cranky. So far, more than 30 babies have been hired and are already entertaining residents, most of whom are in their 80's.
Is this happening in other places too? I think it sounds like a great idea. (As long as the babies go home when they start crying, that is.)

This is news to me. I have heard of pets being kept, or invited to visit, nursing homes, but not babies. What a great idea. I don't know a single Japanese who does not LOVE children! It is nice that they are paid, too.
Pamela: This is a sweet story, getting diapers which are so expensive and formula, what a wonderful and beautiful trade plus the elderly get to have fun time with the very young.

That is a great idea, we had a TV programme here introducing 4 year olds to elderly people, it was wonderful to see how they all got on together.
What a great idea! Elderly people need communication to keep them healthy. But under most of methods, their activities are watching or listening. They will have a good chance to talk to babies positively with a smile.
That's so cute! I think I've read other stories of retirement homes teaming up with child care like this, or getting a 'god grandparent' to bring kids and elders together, but I'm not sure if it's happening around here as well.
