Okinawa - Kinjo-cho, The Stone Path

Originally built in 1522, the Kinjo-cho was an official 10 km road leading to Madan-bashi bridge on the Kokuba River from Shuri Castle.  Most of the road was destoyed during the battle of Okinawa in World War II. The existing section is only about 238 meters long, but is steep and uneven in its current form. The stone path goes between houses and is a pleasant walk.

Mid-way is an interesting little building where you can stop for a rest and even get a drink from vending machines nearby.

Different plants are featured with signage in several languages along the way.

This is an interesting snippet of history in Okinawa.

Building 10km of road in 1500 most have been a lot of work. I think what's left looks impressively well for its age!
