After my Kasanagaski Shrine visit, I went back to the Tsuruga train station and headed for Fukui City. (Train window views).
Fukui Castle Ruins were next on my schedule. While there is no castle left on the site, there are other castle remains. It is only a short walk from the train station and easy to get to.
This information is from the Jcastle website:
Yuki Hideyasu, the second son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, was awarded the area of Kitanosho for his efforts in the Battle of Sekigahara. Hideyasu built his castle just to the North of Shibata's Kitanosho Castle. In 1624 Matsudaira Tadamasa became lord of Kitanosho and renamed it Fukui. The 4 level 5 story main keep burned down in a great fire in 1669 but the castle itself existed until the Meiji Restoration.

It is looking colder and colder. Was it colder than normal for the time of year? I can see why there weren't other people at the castle! Your photos look beautiful, like scenes from a fairytale.
Finally, some ruins that are actually visible! The site looks lovely in the snow. The dinosaurs are pretty cool as well!
