After leaving Ogaki Castle in Gifu Prefecture, I continued on to Shiga Prefecture.
I was surprised by all the snow! These pictures were taken from the train window.
Nagahama Castle can be seen from the train station and is just a short walk away.
It is a reconstructed castle. Information from Jcastle website:
As an ally of Oda Nobunaga, Hashiba Hideyoshi received Odani Castle, but the mountaintop castle was difficult for him to govern his lands. He built a new castle in the village of Imahama and renamed it Nagahama, borrowing the "naga" character from Nobunaga's name. After the battle of Shigatake in 1583 the castle was taken over by Yamanouchi Kazutoyo and after the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 it was ruled by Naito Nobunari. Nagahama Castle was demolished in 1615 because of Tokugawa's "one castle per province" policy. Some of the castle structures and moat walls were moved to Hikone Castle.

The castle look especially impressive with the snow and standing above it like a white wedding cake. I love the cats around the outside!
Show always looks so pretty, although actually having to deal with it might be another matter.
It's a cute little castle, a nice addition to the landscape. You learn a lot on your 'pilgrimage' to these castles; about Japanese history, geography, and even local weather.

Interesting place to visit, the cats don't seem to mind the cold.
I don't think we've seen a castle in the snow before, it's very pretty!
